Autodesk Research Turns Vision into Reality with Fully Fabricated Droid
KT-11 Comes to Life with Cutting-Edge Technology and Team Collaboration
Earlier this year, Autodesk and Lucasfilm hosted a Droid Maker contest, inviting candidates to design the droid of their dreams to celebrate the latest Star Wars release, The Acolyte. Our teams judged the submissions and selected four winners in various categories: KT-11, KR-D7, Scrapper, and QZ-M2.
The teams 3D printed KR-D7, Scrapper, and QZ-M2, and fully fabricated KT-11 using machines and software in three of our Technology Centers. They then shipped components to the Technology Center in San Francisco to assemble the droid before it made an appearance at the Lucasfilm office.
“It was such a great experience to bring KT-11 to life and to connect with Tramaine, its designer, about his vision of creating this droid,” said, Joe Aronis, Manager of the Autodesk Technology Center, Boston. “The resources, machines, and expertise within the Technology Centers made Autodesk Research uniquely positioned to fully fabricate this droid and our team really stepped up to fabricate KT-11.”
