Biography

Joanne Leong is a Senior Research Scientist at Autodesk Research in Toronto, Canada. Her research in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) investigates how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies can be leveraged to augment human cognition and support collaboration, creativity, and learning.

She holds a Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab (where she was advised by Pattie Maes), an M.Sc. in Interactive Media from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, and a B.A.Sc. in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Her experience spans several international academic exchanges, as well as internships at Autodesk, Microsoft, and Snap Research.

Her work has resulted in multiple patents and publications at leading venues such as CHI, UIST, TEI, CSCW, and Nature Machine Intelligence, including three Best Papers. Outside of work, Joanne enjoys drinking tea, drawing, playing racquet sports, traveling, and learning and making new things.
