Connect with our Research Connections: Through Mary’s Eyes
Computational approaches to experiential qualities in design
Our Research Connections series highlights design and make work in the industries Autodesk serves. In this talk, Rohit Sanatani, a design researcher and PhD scholar in Design Computation at MIT.
In this presentation Rohit explores whether the experiential qualities of spaces—how a place feels—can be approximated computationally. Because such qualities are subjective and difficult to capture through predefined metrics, they present a longstanding challenge in design computation. The talk highlights Rohit’s research on new methods and tools for evaluating complex spatial experiences in design scenarios, while also addressing the role of subjectivity and the variability in human judgments of these qualities.
